Buying a house abroad: new calculator shows what taxes and notaries really cost
Heimweit launches a German-language property search for France, Spain and Denmark. A free calculator already shows the purchase costs by country and region.
Anyone buying a house for €300,000 on the Costa Blanca pays around €31,000 to €33,000 in purchase costs. On the Canary Islands the same price costs around €7,500 less, in Denmark only a fraction of that. Heimweit’s free purchase cost calculator now shows these differences.
The calculator is part of Heimweit, a new property search for German-speaking buyers abroad. Instead of clicking through portals in foreign languages, buyers describe in their own words what they are looking for. For example: “A small house by the sea on the Costa Blanca, up to €250,000, ideally with a terrace.” Heimweit turns this into a search, regularly finds matching listings and shows them translated into German in one consistent format.
At launch, Heimweit focuses on France, Spain and Denmark. The listings come directly from local estate agents who supply them through a data feed. Every listing keeps the agent’s name and a link to the original. Enquiries go straight to the agent.
“Many people dream of a house in the south for years and then give up because of foreign portals, terms and tax rates,” says the Heimweit team. “We want German-speaking buyers to find their home abroad as easily as at home, and to know beforehand what it really costs.”
Alongside the calculator, heimweit.de offers a free guide covering, among other things, buying in France and Spain, the rules for Germans in Denmark, holiday home regions and moving abroad. The Heimweit app is in development. Anyone interested can join the waiting list on heimweit.de and leave their search wish now.
